Paddle Through a Coastal Adventure

Craving a paddling adventure that combines the best of nature and relaxation? Imagine the rhythmic lap of water against your kayak, the salty breeze carrying the sound of swaying palm trees, swaying needle rush and resident birds calling overhead. This idyllic scene awaits paddlers on the Bayport-Linda Pedersen Paddling Trail, a coastal paradise on Florida’s Adventure Coast, Brooksville – Weeki Wachee.

This marked route, stretching 1.7-miles between Bayport Park and Linda Pedersen Park, promises an unforgettable paddling adventure; a gateway to the ‘old Florida’ and an escape from the hustle and bustle. From your kayak, canoe or paddleboard, immerse yourself in this tidal estuary, where freshwater from springs and rivers flows out into the Gulf of Mexico. Dubbed “the nursery of the sea,” this habitat offers a prime opportunity for wildlife spotting.

As you follow signs along the trail, look for soaring eagles and wood storks overhead, or the vibrant flash of a blue heron as it spears a fish. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins frolicking in the waves, or playful otters by the shore. Manatees, Florida’s beloved gentle giants, are also known to frequent these waters, especially during the cooler months. Remember to observe them from a safe distance and follow manatee-viewing etiquette.

Plan Your Trip

Both Bayport Park and Linda Pedersen Park offer convenient amenities, including dedicated launch areas, parking spaces, and restrooms, ensuring a seamless paddling experience. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a post-adventure feast amidst the scenic beauty of the parks.

Paddlers can choose to travel one way at 1.7 miles or paddle out-and-back for a scenic 3.4-mile round-trip. Feeling more adventurous? Advanced paddlers will enjoy extending their exploration with the optional 1.4-mile Redfish Bayou Trail, which offers extra challenge of fighting the current. Once you’ve finished your paddle, end the day by exploring the Bayport Park fishing pier and historic markers, or climb the observation tower at Linda Pedersen Park for an amazing view!

This is Florida unplugged, a chance to truly connect with the wild soul of the Sunshine State. So, ditch the crowded tourist traps and discover a natural gem on Florida’s Adventure Coast.
