Withlacoochee State Forest
Withlacoochee State Forest is one of Florida’s largest state forests, spanning more than 150,000 acres across Hernando and surrounding counties. Named for the winding Withlacoochee River, the forest features a diverse landscape of pine flatwoods, cypress swamps, and hardwood hammocks.
The forest offers a wide range of outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking, horseback riding, paddling, and camping, with miles of trails that allow visitors to explore its natural beauty. Joe & Shawn Spellman***TICK ALERT***Major Tick Alert*** Yes, while this is an amazing place with beauty all-around beware of Ticks. They are running rampant. Our group was covered just going a mile or two on a well defined trail. No one wants to go back because of the ticks.
