KelsUnder1I finally checked Weeki Wachee Springs off my bucket list, and while I’m glad I experienced it, I don’t see myself returning. Starting from the beginning, we brought a cooler that was exactly 40 quarts and were told it was too large to enter, which was frustrating. On a positive note, the entrance line looked intimidating, but it moved surprisingly fast, so kudos to the employees handling admission. Once inside, seating was extremely limited, so we ended up finding a small space behind the bar area and making it work. The highlight of our visit was definitely the mermaid attractions. The mermaid photo opportunity was sweet, and the mermaid show itself was by far the best part of the park. Just be aware of the rules: if you’re wearing a two-piece swimsuit, you’ll need a shirt for the show, children must wear shoes, and drinks aren’t allowed inside. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn’t live up to the hype. The lazy river was very underwhelming, and paying $10 plus tax per person for a tube rental didn’t feel worth it. The water slides had extremely long wait times for very short rides, which was disappointing. We also had a small water ball about the size of a tennis ball and were told it wasn’t allowed. The water level is really low so the boat is out of commission during our visit. The shower facilities need improvement as well. There’s only one outdoor rinse-off shower for the sand. The concession stand food was standard theme-park food, nothing special but acceptable. The gift shop actually had a nice selection of merchandise. Overall, Weeki Wachee Springs was just okay. The mermaid show was great, but most of the rest of the experience felt average and didn’t justify the hype. I’m glad I got to experience it once, but I won’t be a returning customer.
