Chinsegut Hill
Located atop one of the highest points in Florida, Chinsegut Hill is home to a historic house situated in a 114-acre preserve. From prehistoric people to pioneer settlers, from an agrarian plantation before the Civil War to the emancipation of enslaved people, Chinsegut Hill has witnessed thousands of years of Florida’s history. During the 1920s and 1930s, new owners of the home hosted progressive-era luminaries Thomas Edison, Helen Keller, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, and others before eventually donating the property to the government. Explore the diverse stories of Florida’s past in one unique location: Chinsegut Hill Historic Site.

I love history and since living in Florida for a few years, we wanted to learn it's history. Only 5$ for personal tour of mansion then we wondered around the grounds and took pics. On my phone, so will update later. They actually have cabins you can rent. They allow service animals. Chinsegut is third highest point in Florida. Really pretty views there are bathrooms onsite. They also do weddings, etc.

Apr 3, 2021 · Google ReviewBeautiful plantation with a rich history. Very worth the visit. It really surprised me that the elevation was so high compared to the rest of Florida. Looking out over the land could have fooled me that I was somewhere else. Definitely worth a visit. Very reasonably priced at $5.
Mar 7, 2024 · Google ReviewWe took the self guided tour. I would suggest starting upstairs in the library room. That gives a better perspective of the occupants of the house. Even though the website says it opens at 10:30, we were not able to go on the self-guided tour until after 11. Well we waited we walked around the grounds and looked at the cabins and headstones.
