Cypress Lakes Preserve, in eastern Hernando County, covers 331 acres, but seems larger on foot going around the wetlands. The preserve’s value as a nature park is largely due to its unusual variety of vegetation communities and the mixture of wetlands and uplands. The uplands are special because they support scarce oak saw palmetto scrub and longleaf pine sandhill vegetation communities which are habitat for numerous uncommon plants and animals.

Spring Fishing is in full swing along Florida’s Adventure Coast. Red fish and snook are taking over the back waters from Aripeka to Chassahowitzka. Look around outside points such as creek mouths and mangrove shorelines. An incoming tide is producing the best action.
