November is one of the best months to be fishing Florida’s Adventure Coast waters for inshore and offshore game fish. I’m hunting down grouper hard this time of year. With the full moon of November, some big fat gag grouper will be showing up in our shallow waters. I find them often in water only eight to twenty feet deep.
Because I am mainly a boat fisherman, I absolutely love free lining live bait for grouper. There is really no better way to target these fish. Using an 8-foot XXH Shimano Termar rod with a Finn Nor lethal 80 spooled with 50-pound power pro line and a 5-foot 60-80-pound leader tied with a 7/0-8/0 circle hook is all you need.
Anchor up-current and chum with live bait. Send one down with a hook and hold on tight! We are catching some very nice grouper, usually between 25 and 34 inches.
Fishing around oyster bars and mangroves in water three feet deep or less, the red fish bite and sea trout bite is strong. Live pilchards are my go-to baits.
