• Celebrate Florida’s Adventure Coast’s Colorful Culture

    Florida’s Adventure Coast is brimming with celebrations of cultural history. Festivals reveal a rich tapestry woven through time and place. Vibrant primaries, passionate reds, Emerald Isle greens, Mediterranean blue and a spectrum of pioneer pastels reflect local cultural influences.

    Brooksville Native American Dancers

    Under a blue winter Florida sky, Florida Classic Park transforms for the Brooksville Native American Festival. Dazzling feathered headdresses and other authentic garb are on display during non-stop dancing, lifestyle and skill demonstrations.

    Observe a higher than average number of redheads and men wearing green and blue plaid kilts at the Celtic Family Jamboree. At picturesque Sertoma Youth Ranch, attend the Friday and Saturday festival as campers or, purchase single day passes. Proud Celts perform and teach traditional music. Exhibits and demonstrations include sheepdog herding and dancing.

    A stroll through Brooksville’s Heritage Day Festival is a glimpse of life as it was about 175 years ago. Puffy petticoats swell beneath gingham dresses and bonnets worn by period re-enactors. Storytelling, basket weaving, and wool spinning are part of this living history scene. At the Russell Street Park, sit in shade at picnic tables after touring the 1885 Train Depot Museum and Countryman One Room Schoolhouse. Nearby is the Victorian style Hernando Heritage Museum. On this special day every year, three magnificent historic homes are open for tours.

    Hernando County Greek fest

    Jubilant cries of “Opa” ring out often during the three-day Hernando County Greek Festival. Cuisine like gyros, moussaka, baklava and much more are cooked and demonstrated on-site and available to eat. Folk dances, musical performances, Togas and other festive Greek attire is colorfully on display. Postponed from March, check facebook for a newly scheduled 2019 date for this popular event.

    Hernando Hispanic Heritage Fest

    In October, the colorful Hispanic Heritage Month features Latin culture and influences during the Hispanic Heritage Festival of Hernando County. Crowning of Miss Hispanic Queen, Hernando County is a glittering festival highlight. Ethnic dishes such as empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, pork and rice and more are some of the flavors available from many food vendors on site.  Live salsa and other traditional music are on stage non-stop.

    Rich in land, waterways and natural beauty, diverse populations originated or later settled in to call Florida’s Adventure Coast home. Discover the energy, music, cuisine, clothing and colors in many festive displays of cultural pride.
