Right now there is insane inshore fishing action. Fishing along Hernando Beach waters is very good with a lot of game fish on the prowl and ready to eat.
Red fish are in large schools. On the other points, islands of these fish are middle-to-over slot fish at 22 to 32 inches. Look for mullet schools and structures for holding a lot of reds.
Incoming tide has produced the best bite and live bait is the way to go for nonstop action.
Live green backs and pin fish free lined or under a cork is my go-to set up. Sea trout are in 3 to 5 feet of water. Target grass flats and oyster bars for them.
Live green backs will always get them but soft plastic baits such as the Mirrolure Little Jon’s in white and root beer have been the ticket. Snook are all over the mangrove shorelines and rock piles and live green backs are the best bait to use.
Incoming or outgoing tides are producing great action. Cobia are here in all depths of water from two to twenty feet.
In shallows look for sting rays hanging around and free swimming just under the surface of the water. Soft plastic baits or live bait will get them interested. Triple tail are around in shallows. And in deeper water old crab floats or floating structures are key for finding these awesome fish. Live shrimp free lined or small green backs will do the job.
